Why a photo-based book works as a gift

Toys get a loud afternoon. A book with their face in it gets reread. The child sees themselves as the hero, which is why parents, grandparents, and aunts reach for a photo-based story on birthdays, firsts, and ordinary “just because” days.

It is a keepsake next to the bedtime pile, not another gadget. We will not call it magical or rank it against anyone else; it is simply a twelve-spread story that looks like them, on a screen or on the shelf. You can give it at a birthday, at a first, or on a quiet visit — the wrapping is optional; the likeness is not.

How Toto personalization works (gift-giver view)

From the gift-giver side the flow is short — about ten minutes of form time. You upload one clear photo (two or three if you have them), add a first name and age, and pick an idea. Toto draws a stylized character. You approve that likeness before the story is made. That gate matters when you are ordering for a grandchild or a friend’s child: the person creating the book is the person who says the drawing looks right.

Then we write and illustrate twelve spreads, using the same approved drawing on every page. After you approve and pay, the ebook is there to read. A hardcover is printed and posted in about seven days, plus the shipping time quoted at checkout. Nothing in the story run starts until that likeness is signed off. How it works walks the steps. Who it’s for

Toto is for children roughly ages 3–6: short sentences, concrete words, twelve illustrated spreads. That band is the product — we do not stretch it to babies or older readers. Parents order for their own child. Grandparents, godparents, and other grown-ups can gift one if they have a clear photo and the child’s first name and age. Likeness approval still happens before the story.

If it fits the recipient, you can centre a family pet or a child’s drawing instead of a photo portrait. Same book, same flow — not a separate catalogue.

Digital ebook is €9.99 — the full illustrated story to read on screen. The ebook + hardcover bundle is €34.90 plus shipping: digital plus a stitched hardcover. If you already bought the ebook, the hardcover upgrade is €24.90 plus shipping, about seven days to print and post.

Photo tips & privacy for gift orders

A clear face helps: eyes visible, decent light, not a tiny figure in a group. One good photo is enough; more only helps if they stay sharp.
